Contributions to risk analysis: Improving the understanding and characterization of risk following an uncertainty-based risk perspective
Supervisors: Professors Roger Flage and Terje Aven
Keywords: Risk Analysis, Risk Science, Uncertainty, Knowledge
The doctoral dissertation aims to strengthen the scientific foundations of risk analysis by enhancing how we understand and characterize risk. The theoretical core of the work is the further development and application of an uncertainty-based risk perspective, which shifts the focus from traditional probability-based methods to a broader view that incorporates uncertainty as a fundamental component of risk. The dissertation contributes to the field of risk science by clarifying and refining key risk concepts, by critically examining current practices in risk conceptualization and assessment, and by proposing improvements to current approaches and frameworks for risk management.
