National Chapter of ESRA in China
Safety and reliability of structures and infrastructure systems have long been attached paramount importance. The research in this field in China could be dated back to the middle 1950s, and since the late 1970s increasing investigations have been done, leading to national standards in structural design based on reliability. Now, structural and system reliability is a course in civil engineering in most of the universities in China, and at least several hundred researchers from universities and research institutes are doing research in this field. Some researchers are now prestigious in this field. For instance, Prof. Jie Li from Tongji University, member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, has been the president of the International Association for Structural Safety and Reliability (IASSAR) between 2017-2022.
The past over 20 years witnessed more and more international communications and exchanges between the researchers in safety and reliability in China and abroad, inparticular with Europe collaborators and partners. For instance, eight universities in China have become the member of ESRA, and many researchers are very active in the past European Safety and Reliability Conferences (ESREL), and many colleagues of ESRA were invited to visited China.
To further enhance the cooperation between the researchers in the field of safety and reliability in China and Europe, the ESRA Executive Board agreed to inaugurate the National Chapter of ESRA in China. The National Chapter of ESRA in China will
• be active at national level and participate actively in ESRA activities (newsletter,TCs, conferences, etc.);
• be independent but report its activities to ESRA Board;
• provide an interface between ESRA and related national developments;
• organize academic activities, including the International Conference of ESREL, workshop and symposium related to safety and reliability, etc.
